The countdown to Canada’s new synchronized national tradition is officially on, and right here in Nanaimo, we are getting ready to step outside together.
As an official Campaign Partner of Everyone Outdoors Together (EOT), the team at Arqtic is thrilled to host a local community gathering for the first-ever flagship event on Saturday, July 18.
Our very own Jack Shaw, Co-Founder and Partner at Arqtic will be hosting a community meetup at one of Nanaimo's most breathtaking coastal landmarks: Pipers Lagoon Park.
At the exact same moment that Canadians from coast to coast to coast pull away from their screens to head into nature, we will be gathering on the rocks to watch the golden hour light up the Salish Sea and the coastal mountains. Whether you want to reflect quietly, talk all things nature and community building, catch up with neighbors, or take some stunning photographs, there is a spot on the shoreline for you.
Event Details
Date: Saturday, July 18
Time: 8:30 PM – 9:30 PM (Arrive a bit early to secure parking and find the group before the sun dips!)
Location: Pipers Lagoon Park, Nanaimo, BC
Meeting Point: Look for Jack and the Arqtic team near the main beach entrance by the interpretive signs before we head out along the spit.
Primary Category: Family & Wellness
Activity Level: Gentle / Moderate (Casual walking on flat gravel trails and sandy/rocky beach terrain)
Site Accessibility & What to Expect
We want to ensure everyone joins us safely and comfortably. Please note the following site features:
Terrain: The main trail leading down to the beach area is flat and stroller-friendly. Walking further out onto the rocky headlands or the beach itself involves uneven surfaces, sand, and pebbles.
Amenities: Public washrooms are available near the main parking lot. Bench seating is scattered along the early portions of the trail, but the primary viewing areas are natural rock and beach spaces.
Transit: Pipers Lagoon Park is accessible via local Nanaimo transit routes with a short walk from the nearest stops down Lagoon Road.
What to Bring
This event is completely casual, unscripted, and focused entirely on community connection. We highly recommend bringing:
A beach blanket, yoga mat, or portable lawn chair to sit comfortably on the rocks or sand.
A warm layer or light jacket, as the ocean breeze can cool down quickly right after sunset.
A camera or smartphone to capture your sunset experience.
Your favorite reusable water bottle or a warm thermos of tea.
Let’s share a sunset, reclaim a bit of stillness, and celebrate our community. We can’t wait to see you on the rocks!
